The Junagadh district is surrounded by Rajkot, Amreli, Porbandar, and Gir-somnath district. There are 9 talukas and 495 village with 331 village dairy Co-operatives and approx 30,000 farmers are member in Junagadh  District Co-operative Milk producer’s Union.

The Junagadh District Co-operative Milk Producer’s union Ltd. abbreviated as SAVAJ – its trade name and correlated with the Asiatic Gir Lion- the Pride of India. Shri. Ramshibhai Bhetariya the founder Chairman of the Union. The Union was registered in 2009 under the Co-operative Act, 1961.

Considering milk production potential in the district of Junagadh, Savaj Dairy was established in the year-2009. The main objectives for its establishment were:

  1. To provide year round guaranteed procurement and remunerative price to the small rural milk producer’s organized into co-operatives.
  2. Elimination of middlemen, equal distribution of benefit to the urban milk consumers.
  3. To provide essential technical inputs and services to the producers to increase milk production to reduce cost of production.
  4. To facilitate the year round milk procurement facility to district farmers and to reduce transport cost of final products for local market which was earlier coming from Amul, Anand.
  5. To provide quality milk & milk products to the Urban & nearby population at reasonable cost.

The Dairy which started in a modest way is now growing in a step way and great leap in last 5 year in respect of milk procurement and establishment of AMUL model of village Dairy Co-operative Society.

Savaj Dairy procures approx 2.5 lakh litres of milk throughout the month with 14 Bulk Milk Coolers operating at different Talukas’ at different central locations of village Dairy Co-operative Societies and 225 Automatic milk Collection Systems to test and receive the milk. Each Village Dairy Co-operative is equipped with Fatomatic and other instruments so as to hasten the collection with complete transparency.
